Shoot and Score for a Bible Cause
If there is one sport that can unite the world it has to be soccer! We’ve seen the unifying power of this game evidenced last year during World Cup 2006, and we’ll see it again this year on 31 May 2007 at “Soccer-For-Bibles” — an event organised by the Sports Coalition Singapore (SCS).
The event presents an opportunity for Christians from all denominations in Singapore to participate together in a fund-raising sporting activity that will undoubtedly strengthen ties between churches.
With the aim of raising S$50,000 for Bible distribution locally and in third world countries, SCS and its partner, Bible Society of Singapore (BSS), hope to attract a maximum of 30 teams.
Event Details:
- Form a team of up to 15 players. (The matches will be a 9-a-side)
- The duration of each match will be 15 minutes.
- Each team will play a minimum of 4 matches and a maximum of 7.
- Each team is required to make a donation towards the cause, which the sending church can help to raise.
- Each church may send more than one team to participate.
Using the money raised from this event, BSS will then organise a field trip to Cambodia from 8-12 June 2007 to distribute Bibles to the poor and needy.
To indicate your interest in participating in or financially supporting this effort, please print out the registration form (in PDF, 3MB) and fill out your particulars. You can return it to the Bible Society of Singapore by fax on 6337 3036 or mail to 7 Armenian Street, #01-01, Bible House, Singapore 179932. Registration is still open. Hurry, sign up now!
For more information, please call Priscilla on Tel 6337 3222 ext 26. We thank you for your interest, and hope to see you at Soccer-For-Bibles!
Bible Distribution Needs in Cambodia
Today there are an estimated 200,000 Christians in the country, in stark contrast to the estimated 200 that remained alive after the military regime in 1979. This is a number that is growing phenomenally each year due to the concentrated efforts of missionaries and enthusiastic leaders being trained by the hundreds in local seminaries. There is a spiritual hunger like never before in this land, and the new Khmer Bible is much sought after because it is easier to understand than the old version. Bible supplies often fall far short of the demand, and your contributions to Bible distribution efforts like this one, however small, can help bring the Word of God to those who need it most.
