Christ in the Ark of Redemption

For the first time in the organisation's history, 20 or more biblical paintings will be on sale at the Bible Society of Singapore from October to December 2006. These paintings by our home-grown Singapore talent Larry James can be purchased at a minimum donation of S$2,000. The funds generated from these sales will be used to aid bible-distribution efforts in Cambodia.

The paintings interpret the theme “Christ in the Ark of Redemption” and feature the artist's perspective of God's redemptive process culminating in Christ. All paintings are rendered in oil and mixed media on a 4ft X 3ft canvas.

Bible Needs in Cambodia

The genocide under the Cambodian hardliner communist's regime and several decades of civil war have left Cambodia not only with a traumatised population and socio-economical disaster, but also moral delinquency, corruption, crime, etc. Although Christians only make up two percent of its 12 million people, Cambodia has a church growth rate of 25 percent annually! However, many of them are in need of Bibles as the Bibles in Cambodia are very expensive — typically more than a week's wages for the average worker.

Although Bibles are available for sale in most parts of the country,
many Cambodian Christians cannot afford to buy one at the normal price.

Tith Hieng only became a committed Christian when he read a Bible that his cousin had given him. He had heard about Jesus before, but it was after reading God’s Word that he fully understood Christianity. Now an ordained Anglican priest, Tith Hieng encourages his congregation to study the Bible. Without a Bible, believers often feel that they cannot grow in their faith. Similarly, without access to a Bible, people like Tith Hieng do not have the chance to come to know God through his Word.
