About Us

Note from the General Secretary

_MG_4264At The Bible Society of Singapore, we hold fast to God’s Word as mentioned in John 1:14 (ESV), “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth”. We believe that we can meet the needs of our societies when people receive the Living Word in their hearts. This is why we endeavour to bring the Bible to all peoples, using various methods present in today’s society.

The Bible Society of Singapore is one of 147 Bible Societies that work throughout the world to translate, publish, distribute and engage people with the Word of God. This means that we are not satisfied with simply handing out the Bible to people. We help different groups of people to apply the Word to their lives by catering to their specific needs.

We consider the work of The Bible Society of Singapore as vital in bringing transformation in our nation and the regions around. Placed in a strategic location, we are called to be an Antioch of Asia to work in partnership with our sister societies in Mainland Southeast Asia (MSEA Mission) and support them in any means possible.

This website contains information about our history and our current ministries. I hope it will encourage you to get involved in our work in Singapore, the region and around the world. Thank you for your interest in our Bible cause. Your support in prayer, donation or voluntary work is genuinely appreciated - it enables us to continue with the Bible mission work that started more than two hundred years ago.

Ezekiel Tan
General Secretary, The Bible Society of Singapore

Our Mission

The mission of The Bible Society is to make the Word of God known to all people by making it available through the work of translation and publishing, accessible through distribution and literacy programmes, and credible through engagement and advocacy.

Our Beginnings

Mary Jones – the 10-year-old Welsh girl who started it all …

Stamford Raffles and Robert Morrison – some of the many men that brought the Bible Mission to Singapore.

Our Partners

With its mission to make the Bible available to every person in a language and format each can understand and afford, the Bible Society of Singapore partners with several different international groups and organizations to fulfill this common vision…

Availability

The Bible Society works to make the Bible available to the nations through the work of translating and publishing Bibles and various Scripture resources into the heart language of people around the world.

Translation

"If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head.
If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart."
- Nelson Mandela

Being able to read the Word of God in one’s heart language not only helps a people group understand it better but helps the people themselves relate to Him as their personal God.

Publishing

The Bible Society of Singapore is the largest supplier in Singapore of all kinds of Bibles and Scriptures in all kinds of languages to churches and Christian bookshops, maintaining a showroom for individuals to buy not only Scriptures but also aids to the study of Scriptures at competitive prices. Proceeds from our retail bookshop are used to support the global distribution of Scriptures.

Accessibility

We are working to make the Bible accessible to those around us through Bible distribution efforts as well as through supporting literacy programmes in the region.

Distribution

The Bible Society works towards distributing Scriptures to those in need through methods such as Bible Mission Trips, the Bible Resource Centre, and local collaborations.

Literacy

UBS literacy programmes are making a great impact on many lives and The Bible Society of Singapore contributes to help ongoing literacy programmes in our neighbouring countries.

Credibility

The Bible Society works to make the Bible credible to those who have access through a variety of engagement programmes and advocacy work.

Engagement

The Bible Society of Singapore engages people with the Bible through a variety of avenues: courses and conferences run by the Sower Institute for Biblical Discipleship, Bible Land Tours and Bible Mission Trips through the International Bible Experiences, NextGen ministries, and ministry to specific language groups.

Advocacy

For the Bible’s message to transform individuals and communities around the world, it has to be a real part of people’s lives. Bible advocacy focuses on how the Scriptures are represented or perceived in public.
