Healing Presence – 22 Mar 2025

API Care and Counselling is happy to organise this workshop to help participants explore the differences between mindfulness and contemplative practices, and delve into the spiritual roots of contemplative meditation.

Over the last decade, mental health services have promoted meditation for self-care, but these practices do not typically include Christian contemplative meditation. In this workshop, led by a pastor and a clinical psychologist, participants will explore the differences between mindfulness and contemplative practices, and delve into the spiritual roots of contemplative meditation.

The workshop offers practical skills for integrating contemplation into daily self-care routines and uncovers its profound benefits for spiritual formation. Join the discussion to address common challenges in maintaining a regular contemplative practice and work towards an enriched spiritual journey of holistic wellness.

Learning Objectives:
- Understand the concept of contemplative meditation and its roots within the Christian tradition
- Understand the distinction between mindfulness and contemplative meditation practices
- Explore the physiological and psychological benefits of meditation for personal wellness, including stress reduction, emotional regulation, and increased self-awareness
- Develop skills for incorporating contemplation into daily soul-care routines

Who should attend:
- Christian interested in deepening their spiritual practice with contemplative meditation techniques
- Mental Health Professionals who want to incorporate contemplative practices into their therapeutic approach for Christian clients

The Gospel of John – 13 Feb 2025

John's Gospel is unique and a great treasure. It covers many things not found in the other Gospels. Yet, Jesus is clearly revealed by a writer who knew Him well, ie. 'the disciple whom Jesus loved'. Indeed, it is only in John that the longer teachings of Jesus are recounted. Hence, the Words of Jesus are not really lost to us.

Rev Dr Malcolm TH Tan
The Rev Dr Malcolm TH Tan has served as a Methodist Pastor for almost 40 years before retiring in Dec 2023. As a pastor, he was committed to teaching the Bible, a passion he continues to hold today.
