How an Orphan in Bangladesh Found the Hope She Needed

This article was adapted from one originally posted by the American Bible Society.

Johanna, an orphan who lives in a children's home in Bangladesh, has endured emotional pain her entire life. Mary, who teaches at Johanna's children's home, says: "The orphan children have many problems. They cannot grow well" physically or spiritually.

Because of the generosity of our donors, the Bible Society was able to help nourish these orphans spiritually by bringing Bibles for children like Johanna and putting the hope of God's greatest gift in their hands and hearts!

After spending time with her Bible, Johanna now says: "Jesus answers all my praying. I can feel his presence. He saves me. I feel like God has blessed me by giving this Bible."

Mary, her teacher, tells us, "The Bible helps the children run away from the pain and sorrows and be strong in faith." Now they can "depend on the Lord in all time."

Johanna is just one of the orphans whose life was changed by God's Word. Another orphan proclaimed: "Today I learn without his Word there is no better life. I will read the Word of God every day and the Word will lead me in my whole life."

Millions of children, like Johanna, in far-off places like Bangladesh desperately need the gospel this Christmas and in the new year. The Bible Society is gearing up to give thousands of people God's Word this Christmas season and beyond, especially boys and girls who don't know Jesus.

As these children learn more about God through His Word, they will in turn share God's message of hope with others! In fact, Johanna wants to share God's Word with others when she gets older. "I want to be a Good News preacher. I want to bring people to God," Johanna says.

For millions of children who are waiting to learn about a loving God and the hope of God's Word, we have a wonderful message, "This very day in David's town your Savior was born—Christ the Lord!" (Luke 2.11 GNT)
