Missions Network Meeting: Nepal

With a population of 26 million, less than 2% are Christian. Nepal suffered two devastating earthquakes in April and May 2015 where thousands were killed and injured, and buildings (including churches) were destroyed.

The Missions Network Meeting: Nepal was held on Friday, 4 March 2016 and was attended by 22 participants from various churches. The General Secretary of the Nepal Bible Society, Rev Tej Jirel, gave a presentation of the socio-political situation in Nepal. We heard updates of the various aspects of the work of the Nepal Bible Society (NBS) and the different programmes and activities to encourage people to engage with the Bible. We were given first hand updates on the disaster relief efforts, particularly from the Body of Christ. Rev Tej also shared his burden for girls at risk and how churches can consider working with NBS to address it. Finally, we were given a glimpse into the Bible Mission Trip that will happen later this year.

After the presentation, some participants shared about their own mission experiences in Nepal. An elderly brother shared about how he had been going for 25 years to plant churches! Another group, formed informally, had gone on several trips to do charity work. There was a lot of exchanging of contacts and notes before the meeting broke into smaller groups to pray for Nepal.
